for vaginal infections
Vagisan sept is a unique vaginal antiseptic that directly treats the cause of the vaginal infection. The broad spectrum of activity covers bacteria, fungi and yeasts as well as some viruses and protozoa. It can therefore be used for a wide range of vaginal infections, including non-specific vaginal infections, infections caused by protozoa such as trichomoniasis and mixed infections. Here, not only one type of pathogen is responsible for the infection, as is the case with, for example, from bacterial vaginosis or vaginal thrush, but bacteria and fungi are involved in an infection at the same time. Vagisan sept can also be recommended for bacterial infections caused by Gardnerella vaginalis , Bacteroides, Prevotella and Mycoplasma hominis. It can also be used for recurring, infections. Vagisan sept can be used repeatedly as the development of resistance is not known.
The pessaryis the only vaginal antiseptic with the active ingredient povidone-iodine , a complex compound of iodine with povidone, which has good tolerability. Vagisan sept is easy to insert without an applicator, also works quickly and is very well tolerated.
Good reasons for using Vagisan sept:
- fights the cause of the infection locally in the vagina
- pessaries are easy to insert without an applicator
- Fast-acting
- Very well tolerated
- No known development of resistance
Properties of Vagisan sept vaginal pessaries
Antiseptics directly attack the pathogens of an infection, such as bacteria, fungi or viruses. They are often known as disinfectants, e.g. for hands or for wound disinfection. Vagisan sept is a local antiseptic for the vagina in case of vaginal infections. One advantage is that it takes effect on the spot and does not have to penetrate the bloodstream to the source of infection. This makes a very fast effect possible.
The disinfecting effect of Vagisan sept is due to the active ingredient povidone-iodine, a better tolerated complex form of iodine. The good tolerability and broad spectrum of action of povidone-iodine is particularly appreciated in the preparation of operations and wound disinfection. This is why povidone-iodine is one of the most widely used active ingredients in gynaecological operations worldwide. Vagisan sept vaginal suppositories have the chocolate-brown colour typical of iodine preparations due to the active ingredient.

Insert 1 vaginal pessary as deep as possible into the vagina once a day. The vaginal pessaries can be inserted comfortably without an applicator. You should preferably do this in the evening, as the antiseptic can then work while you sleep. As the vaginal pessary melts in the vagina, it is advisable to wear a panty liner to avoid stains in your underwear. If any staining does occur, it can usually be removed with warm water and soap.
The treatment should not be carried out during menstruation. You should not use tampons during the treatment.
If necessary, especially with Candida albicans infection (thrush or fungal), you can also use 2 vaginal pessaries daily, one in the morning and one in the evening. The duration of treatment depends on the improvement of your symptoms. However, it should not be more than 10 days. However, if the symptoms do not improve within 10 days, contact your doctor.
